Questions
How much can tire diameter change safely?
Tire shops generally keep a replacement within about 3% of the original overall diameter. Beyond that, speedometer error grows and the tire may rub, and ABS and stability control can be affected.
Why does my speedometer read wrong with bigger tires?
A taller tire travels further per turn, so the car moves faster than the speedometer thinks. A 3% taller tire means you are doing about 61.8 mph when it shows 60.
